Mom Between Cultures: Arab-Islamic & American

by Janan Zaitoun

Who is Janan Zaitoun?

I am an Arab-American Muslim. Born and raised in Jordan, I have also lived in the Sultanate of  Oman. Countries I have visited include Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, France, UK and Canada. Currently, I live near Boston, Massachusetts.

By the time I was 18 and studying for my bachelor’s degree in media and journalism in Jordan, I had a live radio show aimed at children.

This was followed two years later by my first live satellite TV show for children.

My first live TV show for children

Me and “Hud Hud”, the puppet.

At 22, I was co-hosting a talk show for young women.

For my higher education, I  completed my graduate studies in journalism from Harvard University Extension School.

The Video clip below is one of many videos we had to make for a photography and filmmaking class I took in 2012\2013. The Video is starring my husband.

I love cultural differences since I was raised by an American mother and an Arab father.  Differences of culture are also a part of my life as an adult living in America as a Muslim. The best way that I know to express culture and what I’m going through in life is through words, colorful images, and motion pictures.

Welcome to the colors of my world!
